River Restoration Project

River Restoration Project

The Kalamazoo River Restoration Project is a transformational investment in the future of downtown Battle Creek. By restoring the river to a more natural state, replacing aging infrastructure, removing the dam and culvert, and addressing long-standing environmental challenges, the project will enhance the health and accessibility of the Kalamazoo River while creating new opportunities for residents, visitors, and businesses.

Beyond its environmental benefits, the project will strengthen downtown by expanding recreational access, improving public spaces, and creating opportunities for mixed-use development and new housing. These improvements support Battle Creek Unlimited’s mission to drive sustainable economic growth and align with our strategic vision of fostering a vibrant, prosperous, and resilient community.

This project is a multi-year effort that will require careful planning, coordination, and phased construction to achieve its full vision. While the work will take time, each phase represents meaningful progress toward a stronger downtown and a healthier river. The long-term benefits, including improved infrastructure, enhanced public access, expanded economic development opportunities, and a more accessible riverfront will have a lasting impact on the Battle Creek community, making this an investment that will benefit residents, businesses, the environment, and future generations for years to come.
