Battle Creek Unlimited Awarded 2018 Economic Development Champion Award

PRESS RELEASE March 29, 2019 Battle Creek, Michigan – Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) was recently honored to receive the 2018 Economic Development Champion Award.   Mr. Bill Wadsworth, Consumers Energy Economic Development Manager, presented the award to Mr. Joe Sobieralski, President and CEO of BCU, last week at Consumer Energy’s annual economic development celebration luncheon.  Consumers Energy, headquartered in Jackson, Michigan, named BCU the 2018 Economic Development Champion acknowledged for gratitude in collaboration and supporting customers to assist with growing Michigan’s economy. State of Michigan Awards $10 Million for Heritage Tower Redevelopment

PRESS RELEASE November 28, 2018 BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – At its November 27, 2018 meeting, the Michigan Strategic Fund Board approved $10 million in financing for the redevelopment of Battle Creek’s historic Heritage Tower. The building was formerly used as office space and will be converted to a mixed-use development, with residential, commercial and retail spaces. Heritage Tower, located at 25 W. Michigan Avenue in downtown Battle Creek, is the tallest building in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Battle Creek Unlimited Moves into New Offices

Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) inaugurated its new offices with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. BCU renovated a 5,400 square feet cross-dock space in the Frederick R. Brydges Customs Cargo Center, which was adjacent to BCU’s old office. The Customs Cargo Center has been BCU’s home since it was built in 1978. The building was constructed at a cost of $2.4 million, financed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the City of Battle Creek’s Economic Development Commission. BCU Awarded MEDC Grant to Position Battle Creek for Drones, Missile Defense

October 3, 2018 BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – In September, Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) was awarded a Defense Industry Growth Area Grant for $150,000 by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). The grant is part of the Michigan Defense Center’s Protect & Grow Initiative, which seeks to grow the state’s defense sector. BCU will use the grant money to assess Battle Creek’s existing aerospace infrastructure and position the city to attract investment from companies developing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), more commonly referred to as drones.
