Handmap Brewing Unveils Plans to Start Operations in Battle Creek, Michigan

PRESS RELEASE Battle Creek, Michigan – June 11, 2019, Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) has awarded a $200,000 financial incentive to Handmap Brewing, a new brewery locating in downtown Battle Creek. Handmap Brewing will be located on the first floor of the Record Box, a mix-used facility currently undergoing a complete historic renovation by Restore (269), a local real estate developer. In December 2017, BCU announced an RFP in conjunction with a $200,000 incentive for a new brewery/distillery to locate in downtown Battle Creek. WACO Aircraft Co. plans $18 million expansion at W.K. Kellogg Airport in Batte Creek

WACO Aircraft Co. is embarking on an $18 million expansion at the W.K. Kellogg Airport that will include additional space for visiting private pilots and a restaurant that will be open to the general public. Peter Bowers, president of WACO, said his company is adding about 80,000 square feet of new space which will include a new office complex with a reception area for aviators coming into Battle Creek. 2 multi-million dollar projects underway at W.K. Kellogg Airport

The city-owned and operated W.K. Kellogg Airport saw not one but two multi-million dollar expansions kick off this week. WACO Aircraft Co. broke ground Tuesday for a $20 million expansion of its facility on South Airport Road on the east side of the airport. WACO Aircraft Corporation to add more than 30 jobs and 60,000 square feet

WACO Aircraft Corporation will be getting a 60,000-square-feet expansion to its facilities at W.K. Kellogg Airport in Battle Creek. State of Michigan Awards $10 Million for Heritage Tower Redevelopment

PRESS RELEASE November 28, 2018 BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – At its November 27, 2018 meeting, the Michigan Strategic Fund Board approved $10 million in financing for the redevelopment of Battle Creek’s historic Heritage Tower. The building was formerly used as office space and will be converted to a mixed-use development, with residential, commercial and retail spaces. Heritage Tower, located at 25 W. Michigan Avenue in downtown Battle Creek, is the tallest building in the city and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) inaugurated its new offices with an open house and ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday, October 17, 2018. BCU renovated a 5,400 square feet cross-dock space in the Frederick R. Brydges Customs Cargo Center, which was adjacent to BCU’s old office. The Customs Cargo Center has been BCU’s home since it was built in 1978. The building was constructed at a cost of $2.4 million, financed by the U.S. Department of Commerce and the City of Battle Creek’s Economic Development Commission. BCU Awarded MEDC Grant to Position Battle Creek for Drones, Missile Defense

October 3, 2018 BATTLE CREEK, Mich. – In September, Battle Creek Unlimited (BCU) was awarded a Defense Industry Growth Area Grant for $150,000 by the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC). The grant is part of the Michigan Defense Center’s Protect & Grow Initiative, which seeks to grow the state’s defense sector. BCU will use the grant money to assess Battle Creek’s existing aerospace infrastructure and position the city to attract investment from companies developing unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), more commonly referred to as drones.
